Privacy policy
Plain language, because that's the whole point of this site. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and how to say no.
Last updated November 2, 2026
AI Water Usage is a small, student-led project. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't ask you to sign in. The only data we collect is anonymous analytics — and only if you say yes.
What we collect
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (loaded through Google Tag Manager) to understand how the site is used. This covers anonymous, aggregated information such as:
- Pages you visit and how long you stay
- Approximate location (country or region, derived from your IP address — we never store the full address)
- Device and browser type, and the referring site that sent you here
We do not collect your name, email, or any account details, because there are no logins or forms that ask for them.
Things kept only in your browser
A few small preferences are stored locally on your device and are never sent to us. You can clear them any time through your browser's site-data settings:
- theme — whether you chose light or dark mode
- quizBest — your best score on the quiz
- cookieConsent — whether you accepted or declined analytics
Cookies and your choice
Analytics cookies load only after you select “Accept” in the cookie banner. By default — and if you choose “Decline” — analytics is switched off using Google's Consent Mode, so no analytics cookies are set.
Changed your mind? Clearing this site's data in your browser removes your saved choice, and the banner will appear again so you can decide fresh.
Why we collect it
Only to see which pages are useful and where people get lost, so we can make the site clearer. That's it. The numbers never leave Google Analytics for marketing, profiling, or sale.
Who else is involved
Two third parties help run the site:
- Google (Analytics and Tag Manager) processes the analytics described above. See Google's privacy policy.
- GitHub Pages hosts the site and may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability.
Your choices
- Decline analytics in the cookie banner, or clear it to decide again.
- Use your browser's controls to block or delete cookies at any time.
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on to opt out everywhere.
Children
This site is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal details at all, there's nothing here tied to a specific person.
Changes to this policy
If we change how data is handled, we'll update this page and its “last updated” date above.
